History – Old Dominick Distillery is a historic distillery located in Memphis, Tennessee. It has a rich history that dates back to the 19th century. The distillery was originally founded by Domenico Canale, an Italian immigrant, in 1866. Canale started producing a variety of spirits, including whiskey, gin, and vodka. During the Prohibition era in the United States, Old Dominick Distillery was forced to shut down its operations. However, the Canale family continued to maintain ownership of the distillery and preserved its legacy. In 2016, the distillery was revived by Chris Canale, a fifth-generation descendant of Domenico Canale. The new Old Dominick Distillery combines traditional distilling techniques with modern innovations to produce a range of high-quality spirits. Today, Old Dominick Distillery offers a variety of products, including bourbon, vodka, and gin. It also features a visitor center where guests can learn about the distillery’s history, take tours, and enjoy tastings. The distillery has become a popular destination for both locals and tourists interested in experiencing the rich heritage of Memphis’ distilling industry.
Value – This is overpriced for my taste. Not a terrible bottle, however not worth the 68 bucks to me.
Appearance – I love the shape of the bottle however, the label is very plain. The neck is short and the body is basically a rectangle.
Nose – Rye Spice / Honey / Caramel / Small amount of Citrus
Palate – Medium Rye / Caramel / Tobacco / Medium Spice Heat
Finish – Tobacco / Honey / Long Rye Heat / Dry Hot
Summary – In summary, Displays the heat I would expect from a 110-proof single barrel. Rye is decently heavy at all stages in this review. Honey and caramel are key in the nose and palate. The finish is a bit hot and drowns out the flavor towards the end.
“Overall this is an okay purchase in my opinion. The finish is hotter than a two dollar pistol, if that’s what you like then you’re in luck. The nose and palate are mild in comparison to the finish. They have a quite nice honey and caramel touch.“
