History – Knob Creek 12 Year was originally a limited edition bourbon when it was released in late 2019. I am glad this bourbon decided to join the 12 year category as I am a fan of their small batch. Which indifferent on their single barrels. I was very excited to have this in front of me for a review. I bought this on a military base which is likely why you see the purchase price to be the way it is. Knob Creek was first launched in 1992, and since then they have barely changed, remaining dedicated to reproducing a Pre-Prohibition style Bourbon with a Bourbon selection for discriminating cocktail professionals everywhere while winning awards and making people turn a noticing eye.

Value – Moderate value at $58 for the product that it is.

Appearance – Pecan/Syrup. Very cool bottle differentiating itself with the blue label and unique bottle shape specific to Knob Creek.

Nose – Apple / Maple Syrup / Cloves / Ice Cream. This one is very sweet to the nose and really makes you want to indulge beyond the normal sip. It draws a lot of attention toward the flavors of vanilla and syrup. A very nice blend of soft sweetness. It also almost has a white tine smell to it.

Palate – Pepper / Cinnamon / Allspice. It’s rich and dry all at the same time. It is in the middle of thick and thin at the same time. It’s not entirely smooth either but right in the middle of harsh and smooth. It has balance and that is what is here. It tastes great and pushes a spicy taste right up front.

Finish – White Pepper / Medium Heat / Ginger. I am back again to the softness that it has but really leaves a harshness to combat. It is enjoyable for those that like things a little on the rough side. Lingers for about 7 seconds and has a light layer on your tongue but not too thick or too thin.

Summary – It also is a great addition to the Knob Creek family as the brand itself has always been on my shelf in one form or another since I began to drink bourbon. It’s widely known by those at least that are interested in the bourbon world that knob creek is a child of the Jim Beam Distillery. This 12 years to me was a surprise to be going for the price that it was. I scooped it right up and being completely honest has left an impression.

“It’s not an easy drinker but has an easy flavor to like that finds a balance across the board.”
