History – “Jeff Hadden is the Founder/CEO of Soldier Valley Spirits and has been in the liquor business since 1999. It was not until 2011 that Jeff finally brought his dreams to fruition. He came up with the idea of using a canteen bottle, did some research, hired an attorney, and found that both the patent and trademark for the bottle were available. A veteran himself with strong military ties in his family, Jeff felt that the canteen was a natural fit, an iconic symbol that everyone could recognize. Jeff named his product Soldier Valley after his father’s hometown in Iowa”. -Soldier Valley

Lee Greenwood helps raise awareness and money for various veteran organizations. He has worked with Soldier Valley to come out with the Lee Greenwood True American signature series that contains; Bourbon, Whiskey, and Vodka.

Value – For $37 I believe this is a fair price. On their website it sells for $54.

Appearance – This bottle has a bada** canteen design that warms the heart and soles of red blooded patriotic Americans. The whiskey is tawny in color. This canteen bottle is sealed by a cork. Love the 6 on the sides. You definitely get the “got your 6” feeling with the label.

Nose – Honey, citrus, maple wood, and a subtle rye smell at the end. A really pleasant nose that does not scorch your nostrils.

Palate – On first contact, a little spice, maple wood, honey, and even a touch of caramel were evident. The palate seems to be dry and smokey.

Finish – The finish lasts approximately 10–15 seconds. Honey and caramel notes disappear rather quickly and are replaced with a dry, low-heat spiciness. I do wish the sweetness would stay a bit longer, but it’s not a bad ending by no means.

Summary – In summary, this whiskey features a delightful nose, a pleasing palate, and a decent finish. A decently balanced whiskey with low heat throughout the review I believe this is a must-try for all whiskey lovers out there who want to support a veteran-owned company or just want a cool-looking bottle.

I enjoy supporting veteran-owned distillers. Especially when ones like this give you that amazing patriotic rush of emotion. This whiskey, with a little more age, could be great. I hope to be able to review the rest of their products!
