Embrace the Bourbon’s November Whiskey of the Month is coming in straight SMOKING with an 8.9 out of 10. This is a 100-proof Small Batch of Bourbon that hails from Las Vegas, Nevada that will have you astonished at how great this bourbon is. Without further Ado from Nevada H&C Distilling, Smoke Wagon’s Small Batch gets the win this month! This bourbon is full of flavor that will keep you on your toes wanting more and more. There is no age statement on this bottle nor on their website. It is believed to have a mash bill of 60% corn, 36% rye, and 4% malted barley.

The history of this company starts with Aaron Chepenik and Jonathan Hensleigh. They are the founders of Smoke Wagon. The Small Batch was released in 2016. Here is a passage from the creators. “Smoke Wagon? Does that mean it’s smokey? Smoke Wagon is actually old west slang for the 1873 Colt single action army revolver or “the gun that won the west”. Our logo stamped in wax consists of two crossed Smoke Wagons over the state of Nevada. Below it is our motto and a quote from Seneca, bibamus moriendum est. The literal translation is “drink, for we must die” but the meaning is more along the lines of, drink and enjoy today because we won’t be around forever. We can only assume Seneca meant to drink responsibly, of course.” –Nevada H&C Distilling CO.

Now let’s get into the nitty-gritty of what makes this product so good. Here is a snippet of the Nose, Palate, and Finish from our review of this Smoke Wagon product.

Nose – Quick off the start with caramel, oak, and vanilla with little to no spice in the mix at all. This is an outstanding nose unless you like spice in the nose. This is one of my favorites so far.

Palate – Fast-hitting caramel/honey twisted by cinnamon. Followed by possibly almonds. Phenomenal start that slides off too quickly. This would be a great palate if it lasted longer.

Finish – Flabbergasted, is how I felt experiencing the initial sip. An amazing palate that opens with a sweet caramel/vanilla mix. Gradually transitions to quite a nice peppery oak flavor on the tongue, so you get this great oak taste with the right amount of heat mixed in. –embracethebourbon.com

“The bottle itself is a very unique design that is pleasing to the eye. The floral that surrounds the seal just set this bottle on FIRE! The bottle itself is dark so it makes it hard to tell the color of the bourbon until you pour that first sip. Once you pop the cork on this sucker you will find it is medium copper. The only complaint I have against this small batch is that I would prefer a lighter color bottle.” -Eric Watkins. This is how we felt about the appearance of the bourbon and the bottle that holds its contents. Quite remarkable with the floral on the bottle and the embedded seal. Outstanding showmanship. 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2021 winners of the San Francisco World Spirits Competition Gold Medal!
