“Support Us By Purchasing Sazerac Rye Through Caskers!”
History – Known to come from New Orleans, this rye whiskey has a big name to it. With that big name comes a brand behind it that is sweeping the nation with 3 words. Buffalo Trace Distillery who is the distillery that stands behind this rye. It’s exciting to look at after the purchase because you can’t believe that you were actually able to find one. Then when you realize that you didn’t have to pay more than an evening out to eat for one person then you get really excited and so much you can’t wait to open the bottle. Buffalo Trace states – “Rye Whiskey dates back to the 1800’s, around the time when saloons, veiled as Coffee Houses, began lining the streets of New Orleans. It was at the Sazerac Coffee House on Royal Street where local patrons were served toddies made with Rye Whiskey and Peychaud’s Bitters. The libation became known as the “Sazerac” and America’s first branded cocktail was born. This is the whiskey that started it all.” – Buffalotracedistillery.com.
This drink is well known for making the Sazerac Cocktail which has been deemed as “America’s First Cocktail”. You can find the direct recipe from ‘The Sazerac House’ website. Let’s dig in and see what makes this rye so special.
Value – Purchased at an amazing price point of $30 this is hard to beat and especially in 2022 where all the rave is the rave is Buffalo Trace Distillery Products.
Appearance – From a classic bottle with a copper tone this bottle looks very cool. It reminds you of much earlier times and bring character and depth to the experience.
Nose – Apricot, citrus, loaded with summer fruits, it’s not overpowering by any means and comes with grassy undertones. Whoa, what a smell this gives off. This really pulls you in wanting a sip as soon as possible. Let’s try it!
Palate – Peach cobbler, light rye as expected, orange and vanilla. It’s enjoyable all the way through as you reach the finish as it is subtle and chalked full of flavor.
Finish – Nutty finishing with butterscotch and very crisp on the end. Slight burn up to 10 seconds which seems just right for a bourbon you want to really sit back and enjoy with heavier sips.
Summary – Rolling this review up, what you can see is that the flavor profile is of definite higher value than the $30 that you can purchase this at. It’s a great entry level bourbon that provides even the most experienced drinker all the depth and complexity that you need. It doesn’t have an age statement which leaves you wondering. It also does not provide the exact mash bill recipe but in the end what really matters is whether you can sip on an affordable bottle and dream of all the flavors that it leaves behind in your mouth.
“From its look and feel all the way down to the finish this is a winner in my book and if you don’t have this on your shelf then you are missing out!”
