History Eagle Rare used to state that this bottle was a Single Barrel but since there was a change in the way that it was processed and bottled by Buffalo Trace Distillery could no longer guarantee its sustainability of remaining each bottle as a Single Barrel. They removed the statement from the bottle and gave it a simple Age Statement of 10 years. It is said that the mashbill for this bourbon is Buffalo Traces #1 Mashbill which focuses on less than 10% rye.

Value – Wow, a bourbon that is this tasty at a middle value of $50! This is a great deal but what was an even better deal was the value when I used to purchase it at $35. The Buffalo Trace hype market has driven the price of this product up and I imagine in areas that it may be harder to come by it is much more expensive that the $50 that I paid for this. I have to give its value a high number due to that fact that this bourbon taste much higher than the price that was paid for it

Appearance – Mahogany, I love the bottle as it stands out in the market. The name Eagle Rare is something that many may see as a “Oh I have to get this rare bourbon” moment. On the contrary it is becoming more and more available in the market. The Bald Eagle that brands the bottle is very American which stands behind the history of Bourbon and its sole american roots. In newer bottles the age statement has been moved to the front of its bottle to show its value.

Nose – Pulling Apple, Oak, Honey and Port from this. It is definitely not overpowering but something that everyone can enjoy from the absolute beginner to the long time bourbon consumer. The nose really makes you want to smell it over and over again. It takes my imagination into what the ideal smell is when you walk into a rick house. Definitely enjoyable!

Palate – Old Wood / Nutmeg / Prune / Cigar Box / Perfect Medium of Smoothness that has you wondering why it is that this bourbon is so perfectly balanced. Then once you go back for another sip you realize what all the hype is in today’s bourbon search market. This has a great overall taste I can see pair very well with various foods and not only a stand alone drinker.

Finish – Medium with light burn that lasts between 10-15 seconds and has a lingering settlement on your tongue that keeps the full flavor of the bourbon in your mouth. As a guy that loves the finish on bourbon this has seemed to hit all of the right spots. I would prefer a heavier hit in the end but not to say that it is not an enjoyable experience.

Summary – This bottle stands tall not only as the tall bottle that it comes in, the flavor that it provides but also in a market that people are obsessive about. Overall this bourbon is great and can compete side by side with many popular high priced range bourbons on the market and at an amazing value. The only downfall in my opinion is that I wish that the finish was a little more there.

“When you buy this bourbon you are wondering what is all the hype about? Then after your first, second and third sip just to verify you come to realize why. It’s simple really, this bourbon is known and recognized for being a smooth, full flavored and low impact on the finish bourbon that is attractive to the wide market of consumers from beginning to advanced. It has all the right parts and all the features that will go great on anyone’s shelf.
